The Heritage Station Hotel

The Heritage Station Hotel is located at the old Kuala Lumpur Railway Station, one of the most distinctive Railway Station's in the world. The building has been gazetted as a heritage site since 14 April 1983.

We are a 170 room budget hotel, in following the historical tradition of the railway station, offering basic necessities with no frills. All our rooms come attached with a private bathroom. In our hotel, you will experience the simpler lifestyle of yesteryears, long since forgotten as you engulf yourself in the past glories of Malaysia's Historical Colonial Past.

Designed by A.B. Hubback and officially opened on 1 August 1910, the Railway Station was then known as Federated Malayan States Railway which originally housed a hostel. The building draws inspiration from the Neo Moorish period heavily influenced by architecture from India, Turkey and Morroco. Much of the building is made out of wood, with minimal use of stone and cement. All the building materials were brought in directly from England.

A.B. Hubback's work is visually alive in Malaysia today, famous for his Neo Moorish designs which many people claim was due to his experiences in India. Unfortunately, Arthur has never been to India. His most notable works in Malaysia today are:

  • The Railway Station, Kuala Lumpur
  • The Railway Administrative Building, Kuala Lumpur
  • The Old City Hall, Kuala Lumpur (Now Panggung Bandaraya)
  • The Railway Station, Ipoh, Perak
  • Ipoh Town Hall Building, Perak
  • The White House of Klang (Now Galeri Diraja Sultan Abdul Aziz, under the auspices of the Sultan of Selangor)
  • Jamek Mosque, Kuala Lumpur (Masjid Jamek)
  • Ubudiah Mosque, Kuala Kangsar, (Masjid Ubaidah, under the auspices of the Sultan of Perak)
  • State Secretariat Building, Seremban (Now Seremban State Library)
  • Extensions to The Royal Selangor Club, Kuala Lumpur
  • Carcosa Sri Negara, Kuala Lumpur Malaysia and many other buildings in Malaysia.

A. B. Hubback also designed the Kowloon-Canton Railway Terminus, Hong Kong and what is now left of the building is the famous Clock Tower located in Tsim Sha Tsui. He is also known to be the first British Architect to achieve the ranks of Brigadier General for his services in World War I. At The Heritage Station Hotel, we are committed in creating a 'community based model hotel', where we will promote history, arts and culture via friendship, active participation and numerous events that will be hosted at the hotel in our designated exhibition spaces, conference rooms, food and beverage outlets. These efforts will take time and we have begun promoting our community based model through numerous projects online and onsite.

We are also open to participation from any individuals or organizations that would like to partner with us in our efforts to maintain and promote this grand old lady in Kuala Lumpur.
